trike

Even before the end of the UK City of Culture 2013 period, the iconic Peace Bridge, as the gateway to Ebrington Square and St Columbs’ Park has become a long-lasting feature of the city.

With the expected influx of visitors during the summer period quite a number of older people will unfortunately be unable to have the pleasure of crossing the Peace Bridge.

With this in mind the proposition is to set up a Tricycle system which would run throughout the day between Guildhall Square and Ebrington and Ebrington to Guildhall Square. The trip across the bridge could also take in a visit to the St Columba figure at the Park.

Initially this could be a pop-up business run from a suitably decorated shipping container doubling as a customers waiting area during working hours and secure overnight parking space for the trikes.

The idea is twofold in that it offers an entirely new service to visitors to the City and would also create job opportunities for the young unemployed. It is envisaged that young people will be the operators of the tricycles with the prospect, if suitable, of becoming self employed.

At the outset a licence should be limited to one service supplier thus keeping control to prevent the Bridge becoming a proverbial racetrack. With the expansion of the cycle tracks up and down the west bank of the Foyle, if the demand is there, further licences could issued for additional service suppliers.

It would be preferable if the service were a City project or in some way grant-aided. This would ensure maximum assistance to the job seekers rather than profit to an individual or an organisation for this potentially profit-making scheme.
Start off with six tricycles.
Operators would be based on the number of hours allowed weekly.

Imagine sitting on a tour bus, and having the possibility of borrowing a tablet computer to get online to call home to tell your family about your trip, or being able to charge your mobile phone while an expert tour guide shows you around.
Alright there are hundreds of tour operators, but the difference is that by using any available technology on a tour bus would enhance the whole experience.
Some examples would be Wi-fi on the moving vehicle. While one person was taking a picture as you drive to the next spot, others could be Facebooking or Tweeting the experience and emailing it home.
There could also be customised telephony applications on board. Using Skype the tourist onboard could call whichever country they want to. It is also possible that an app might be available for the US clients to call a landline or a mobile number in the US from the complimentary iPads on the vehicle.
A further annoyance for tourists in many parts of the world is finding the right adaptors for their electric equipment. To ease this burden every seat would have the facility to charge any device. Whether it's a cell phone; an iPod or iPad, whatever device they have - in all about 12 gadgets - could be charged simultaneously.
Besides the communication technology, there would also be a fridge on board for the clients to use, with supplies of complimentary water or a cool beer

I’ve discovered I’m a Curation blogger

Curation blogging is providing a service in a market where searches can often fall short of content. Hopefully, it is about giving people a carefully researched selection of resources and links, making up an organized blog post.

With so much company downsizing, people are more and more involved in their core work - with little time for personal net surfing - so a well versed content related to their topic of interest can be invaluable.

I read the internet, so that others may not have to and ensure each posting contains the odd snippet of my readers known interests and taste. Of the blogs I read every day, more than half will link me to news articles, websites, or other blog posts on the web. .

Previously bloggers were expected to write original content, but it's no longer a no-no to share things found elsewhere on the Internet. While original content might remain highly valued by many readers, others will read the blog to see what news content surfaces.

Seems to be working for me, with followers slowly building and Re-tweets increasing.

Forgot to add: To keep the old grey cells active in my retirement, this is a labour of love!
